  • The state occupies only 4.1% area of India

  • The state contributes 16% of value of mineral produced in India.

  • The state having 28 types of Minerals .Important are diamond, Coal, Iron ore, Limestone, Bauxite, Dolomite, Tin ore etc.

  • The state has world-class iron ore deposit (upto 68%Fe) in Dantewara, Bastar, Kanker, Durg, Rajnandgaon & Kawardha districts.

  • The state has 16.36% of the total deposits of coal with 41442 million tonnes reserve in India and the state ranks 2nd in coal production by contributing over 19.32% to the total national output in 2007-08.

  • The state, ranks 5th in the country in extracting bauxite contributing 10.17% to the national production of bauxite.

  • The State contributes 5.15% of the national reserves with over 9038 million tonnes Limestone of all grades.

  • The State has 11.24% of the total Indian Dolomite deposits with 847 million tonnes reserve.

  • 13 Lakh carat of Diamond established in State and State has 28.26% of total Indian reserve.

  • The state is the sole producer of tin ore in India and 38% of the Indian tin ore occurs in the state which is 32.62 million tonnes.

  • Mineral valuing 10674 crore rupees have been produced during 2008-2009 and State ranked second among Indian State.

  • Iron ore valuing 13098.86 million rupees have been Exported by NMDC.

  • In the year 2008-09, contribution of Rs. 1237.30 crores was made to the State exchequer, as Mineral Royalty.
